RCIA & RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults/Children)
Encountering Christ in the Catholic Church
INQUIRE * RECEIVE * BELONG
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is designed for adults ages 18+ who are freely seeking the living God. RCIA sessions are an opportunity for you to ask questions about Jesus, the Church, the Catholic faith, as well as who you are, your purpose in life, and whether God is calling you to become part of the family of faith here at Saint Mark Parish. Through God, you will be strengthened spiritually as you prepare to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
RCIA sessions for adults will be held on Wednesday evenings in Parish Center Fireside Room, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The first inquiry session will be held on: September 18, 2019 at 6:30 pm
RCIA is composed of four periods:
- Inquiry: This is the initial period before one decides to enter the Catholic Church. This is a time of discernment and of asking questions. During this time, you do not need to commit.
- Catechumenate: Those adults who have decided to commit to entering the Church are developing their faith and are learning the tenants of the Catholic faith and are committed to embracing the Gospel values.
- Purification and Preparation: This period helps the catechumens to focus intently on the Catholic faith as they prepare to commit their life to Christ and His Church. This period concludes with initiation, the culmination of the whole process. Reception into the Catholic Church happens at the Easter Vigil.
- Mystagogy: This period after reception into the Church at Easter, lets our newest members learn more about the mysteries of our faith, as they are now able to fully participate in the Mass and Sacraments. It is also a time to reflect and to continue to learn more about the faith.
Please contact Laurie McCloskey at 364-7900 to sign up! This year, the RCIA sessions will be led by Fr. Maurer, Laurie McCloskey, and a small team of catechists.
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC) sessions are designed for children & teens (ages 12 – 17). The first inquiry session will be held on: Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 7:00 pm
RCIC sessions for children & teens will prepare them to receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist). Sessions will be in conjunction with the teen Confirmation program classes and will be held on Thursday evenings in Sullivan Hall from 6:45 – 8:15 pm.
Please contact Laurie McCloskey at the parish office to sign up or ask questions: 206.364.7900 x 105; email: [email protected]
If you love your faith and would like to help mentor someone on their journey, please sign up to become a sponsor or join the Discover Christ team. Please contact Fr. Maurer at the Parish Office at 364-7900.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study
God sends prophets at critical times to call the people back to their covenant relationship with Him. Prophets proclaim the consequences of continued sin, call people to repentance and declare God’s faithful love. In The Prophets: Messengers of God’s Mercy, discover how God is constantly calling you to a deeper relationship with Him as well as the ways you are called to be the voice of God to others.
This Fall the Tuesday morning Bible Study group will follow this 10-part comprehensive study of the prophets. It is part of the Great Adventure Bible Study Program. We will meet 9:00-10:30 am in Sullivan Hall beginning September 17th, 2019. Each workbook will be approximately $30. Please join us! Contact Gretchen Miller as soon as possible at (206) 605-5648 or [email protected]
